Privacy Policy

RunnersKit is a simple tool. You give it a location, it gives you an outfit recommendation. We collect as little as possible to make that work.

What we collect

Location queries. When you enter a city or ZIP code, that query is sent to our server to fetch weather data. We do not store it after the response is returned.

Affiliate link clicks. When you tap a gear link, we record that a click happened, with no personal information attached. This is used only to count traffic for affiliate reporting.

Account data (optional). If you create an account to save outfits, we store your email address and saved outfit history via Clerk (our auth provider). You can delete your account at any time.

Run preferences. If you set preferences (runs hot/cold, pace, distance), they are saved to your account if you are signed in, or held in browser localStorage if you are not.

Marketing emails (optional). If you opt in when you sign in (or later in Settings), we send occasional running tips and product news to your account email. This is always optional and never required to use RunnersKit. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can turn it off anytime in Settings. We use Loops to send and manage these emails.

Product analytics. To understand how RunnersKit is used and improve it, the website uses Vercel Analytics (privacy-friendly and cookieless) and the iOS app uses PostHog. These record anonymous usage events such as pages or screens viewed and actions taken. They never include your email or precise location (city-level at most) and do not use advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking.

What we don't collect

  • Your precise location in analytics (city-level at most, never exact GPS coordinates)
  • Browsing history or cross-app / cross-site tracking
  • Advertising identifiers (IDFA) — the iOS app shows no tracking prompt
  • Payment information of any kind

Third-party services

RunnersKit uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

OpenWeatherMapPrimary weather data provider. Your location query is forwarded to their API.
Open-MeteoFallback weather provider used in rare cases when OpenWeatherMap issues exist.
ClerkAuthentication and account management (only if you create an account).
LoopsEmail service. Delivers transactional email (such as contact-form messages) and, if you opt in, marketing emails. For marketing it stores your email address and first name.
VercelWeb hosting plus privacy-friendly, cookieless Vercel Analytics. Standard server request logs may be retained per Vercel's policy.
PostHogProduct analytics for the iOS app. Receives anonymous usage events (no email, no precise location, no advertising IDs).
Affiliate partnersGear links may include affiliate tracking parameters set by the retailer.

Cookies & local storage

We use browser localStorage to remember your last location and run preferences between visits, no login required. We do not set advertising or tracking cookies. Vercel may set functional cookies for routing.

Data retention

Guest data (weather queries, preferences in localStorage) is never written to our database. Account data is retained until you delete your account. Affiliate click counts are retained in aggregate indefinitely and contain no personal information.

Your rights

If you have an account, you can request a copy of your data or delete your account at any time by contacting us. If you are in the EU or California, you have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA. Please reach out and we will honor them promptly.
